Weight Loss for Wellness - Exploring Conscious Eating

Our food forms our physical body.

In yoga it is understood that this physical body that we live in is made up of the food that we eat. In fact it is called the annamaya kosha or the food body. (You can read more about koshas and the different layers of being here). This means that what we eat has a profound effect on our physical body, as it is literally made up of our food.

We all know that if we are thinking about weight management, then we have to think about our diet and our food intake. The yogic way is to become more conscious not only of what we eat, but how we eat and the health of our digestive system.

This is what we will explore in this session. We will find out not only a modern view of a healthy human diet, but also the yogic wisdom behind eating and how to eat well.

Our living experience is limited by what we are carrying within our being.

In our last class we explored the concept of multidimensional being. This is the understanding that we have much than just a physical existence: we have a subtle existence that is beyond physical.

Our experience of life, our consciousness everyday experience is limited by what is held in our different layers of being. This means that if we want to become more conscious we have to deal with what we are holding on to on many different levels within ourselves.
In this class we explore more of the details of our multidimensional nature. We also develop the understanding of the purpose of some of the different practices in yoga. Everything that we hold within our being on the many levels is hiding our true nature, our true self. Much of the practice of yoga is trying to remove those obstacles so that our true nature can shine unhindered and express through our being.

Weight Loss for Wellness - Creating and Energizing a Personal Vision.

We must be ready and willing to change.

This week gone I had a conversation with a member of my class. We were reflecting on how a person can find the strength and inspiration to positively change themselves.

I shared with her the sentiment of Paramahansa Yogananda  who said that if you want to be unhappy no one in the world can make you happy, and that if you want to be truly happy nothing in the world can hold you back from that.

Once we hold a vision for ourselves and do not compromise it - then it comes to us. We create and attract it from our own inner power.
The first step to creating any change, and in this particular case to creating better wellness for ourselves is to have a vision. That means as well that we must be ready to change ourselves. We have to confront the reality that if I am looking for some kind of change in my life then I must be willing to change my habits, perspectives, and way of living. That was the focus of our first session in our Weight Loss for Wellness Program.

Svadhyaya - The Multidimensional Nature Of Our Being.

We are much more than physical beings.

Intuitively we all know this. Our experience every day is a myriad, a woven tapestry of sight, sound, touch - along with emotions, thoughts, dreams, and life challenges. We are so much more than just a physical being. There are many layers to our existence.

Yoga boldly asserts this, that we are much more, and then gives us to the tools to find out for ourselves. What is the much more that we are? How can we explore it, discover it, and experience it with greater clarity?

This is the expansion of consciousness. We become more and more aware of our multidimensional nature of our being. We begin to live a life that is not physically dominated, but is an integration of all of our different layers.

The true scope of Yoga is not widely known. Many people only know yoga as a physical activity. But this is only because of modern media and culture.

Yoga is a deep life subject. It is about the evolution of man towards something greater. This evolution is not external in the way we think of the evolution of species. It is the transformation of ordinary consciousness towards higher consciousness.

It is said that there is a path of yoga for every person that is alive. For each person holds an inner potential of something truly great, truly miraculous, and that transcends the physical.

A strategic and balanced approach to weight management through the practice of yoga.

Many of us can benefit from managing our weight in a more balanced way. This program is a support system as we pursue a healthier weight for ourselves.

I took training and designed this program just to suit the needs of those who are looking for a holistic approach to weight management.

This program is not a quick fix or for rapid weight loss. It is about pursuing deeper wellness for ourselves with a focus on managing our weight. It aims to create life-long habits for better health, and in that process our weight will adjust itself for our wellness.

We will explore three themes in this program: personal vision, conscious eating, and conscious activity. These three themes together provide us the vehicle for transforming our weight in a balanced way to help us achieve better wellness.

Read on to find out more about this program structure and to take the first steps towards wellness.
