When I got home to Trinidad and Tobago from studying abroad I had to embrace a very peculiar situation. Here I was with a degree in psychology, having graduated in the best way possible, yet I felt very uncertain about my life. At that time there was only one thing that was important to me. My mother.
My mother, Reena, had been living with cancer for many years. She contracted it when my sister and I were very young. But over the years she remained determined to living well and staying close to her family. Because of the constant remissions and recurrences her body was very challenged. The years of chemotherapy and carrying the disease kept her body in difficult state. But it left room for her spirit to soar.
