It is with this awareness in mind that I began to facilitate this class - Svadhyaya. The word svadhyaya is a Sanskrit one meaning "self-study". It is imbedded deep within the practice of yoga according to the sage Patanjali.
There are many layers of meaning to this practice. On one level it means the study of the philosophy and practices of yoga. It is the exploration of yoga as a science - just as one would study any other subject. On another level it is the study of oneself. We begin to learn about our true nature through careful observation and analysis. This class encompasses both of these aspects to broaden our horizons in the practice yoga. I developed this class to serve the needs of those who would like to go deeper into their practice. It will help us to understand the origin and purpose of yoga. It also delves into the mystical philosophy of yoga: exploring ideas of Kundalini, subtle energy, and life-purpose.
