This blog is a continuation from the previous one where I shared the chanting of my favorite mantras.
Here I explain some of the mechanics and the meanings of the different mantras. Also how we can use them to uplift various aspects of our life.
I personally use these mantras and find them very powerful. They have given me great support in my spiritual journey.
In this blog you can read about:
1. The power of OM
2. How mantras work
3. How I use each of the 4 mantras in my life.

The Power Of OM
OM is a sacred sound. In yogic philosophy OM is understood to be a the primordial vibration. That means that it is the most fundamental vibration (sound) that exists in the Universe.
In fact this has been examined by scientists. There is vibration that can be picked up from empty space! This is what OM refers to.
When we chant this sound we are resonating with that fundamental power that is in the Universe. The chanting of OM is accessing that infinite source of energy that is available for us.
You could say it is that chanting of OM that plugs us into the energy. Then we use that energy in a certain way through the formulas of the mantras.
Chanting OM connects us to that source of energy that is available for us. It tunes our mind, energy, and body into that source of energy.
Of course you can imagine how powerful that can be! I invite you to practice the chanting of OM with your mantras or on its own - and experience for yourself the energy that it brings into your life.
How Mantras Work
Mantras are highly specific and scientific. A mantra is made up of a series of syllables or sounds put together in a particular way.
The arrangement of the sounds influences the energy within us according to the purpose of the mantra.
When we chant those sounds out loud or repeat them in our minds the vibrations affect our minds, energies, and even our bodies. We are actually tuning up our life to resonate with the power of the mantra.
The power that the mantra invokes comes alive within us. In this way we can have incredible spiritual experiences triggered by the mantra.
But more importantly the mantras are uplifting our experience of life. It can transform how we see and interact with the world. In that way it is almost a miraculous power.
With this mantra I feel a strong sense of closeness and unity. I will often say the mantra in my mind when I have a class or meditation group.
It helps me to feel connected with those who are around me and my community.
When I chant the Mantra of Togetherness I hold a collective in my mind. So it may be myself and my class. It may be myself and friends/family. Sometimes I even do it with the community.
Then as I sound the mantra I feel that uplifting sense of nourishment, strength, Light, and unity. I can feel those qualities strongly flowing through me. It is a wonderful feeling knowing that I am doing something uplifting for those around me.
I also use this mantra to help transform relationships. If I ever have a little disagreement with someone (or perhaps a big one!) - I will hold them in my mind as I chant the mantra.
This is my best way of connecting with the person from a place of goodness even though I may not understand or connect on the "human" level. I have seen this work wonders with my relationships.
I hope that you will use it as well to uplift yourself and those around you.
This is the most sunshine-y mantra I practice. In the meaning you can see that it is a blessing onto the world.
May all have happiness, health, see beautiful sights and be free from sorrow. It is a wonderful energy to share.
Of course in the chanting of the mantra you are generating that powerful and bright energy that spreads through the world. Where does the energy flow? Through you!
It flows through your own mind, heart, and body. In this way you experience the same that you wish for the world.
I always feel that very positive sense when I chant this one. It feels like I am able to bless the world and those around me. It calls for me to strive to be that blessing as well.
Light Bringing Mantra
I firmly believe that this mantra has guided my mind into a place of Light and understanding.
This mantra is asking the Universe to bring Light into our being. The Light of truth, wisdom, understanding, and immortal consciousness.
Note that this does not mean we are asking to live forever in the body! No it means that we want to experience that part of us that is already eternal. That is the spiritual part of us - the deepest part of us.
Anytime I have any kind of challenge trying to understand something I repeat this mantra in my mind. Then I come into a meditative space and feel the expanding effect that comes.
Certainly I have also used it to work through challenging emotions - to bring Light into my heart. Of course we all have experienced heavy and negative emotions.
Sometimes it feels as though we cannot escape from them. But I chant this mantra with my focus placed at the heart.... and sure enough it will release in the right time.
Of my favorite mantras... this one is the most mysterious. It is acknowledging that there is perfection in the Universe. That everything is in the right place, internally (spiritually) and externally (materially).
This may seem like a hard pill to swallow. But it is worth practicing until you have an experience of it.
Through the practice of this mantra I began seeing the world (including myself!) very differently. It brings an expansive consciousness.
You could say that it is helping you align your "seeing" with a deeper part of you.
Thank you for listening. I hope that you will begin integrating mantras into your daily yoga practice.
If you already work with mantras... remember that there is always more to discover. I am constantly working to reveal the secrets of the mantras within.
Always remember that Yoga is experiential. That means we must practice it to experience it.
Certainly it is worth it to practice these mantras! What they can bring into your life is nothing short of miraculous!
